Counting Down

Remember cassette tapes? :) I remember watching the tape spin around the spools as I listened to my favorite songs. The closer I got to the end of the tape, the faster one of the spools would spin. That's the best way I can describe how I'm feeling right now. Like the tape of this school year is close to the end, and the spool keeps spinning faster and faster. Our year's gone by in a hurry, or so it seems. Being a mom means living through long days--but short years.

I've loved this school year. Aaron's still at home most days, Kaleb's learned so much in 2nd grade, and Braylen's become much more independent in 4th grade. I've been blessed to help in their classrooms this year, and Aaron's really come out of his shell and made some good friends at preschool. We're looking forward to track meets for Braylen and Kaleb this spring, t-ball for Aaron this summer, and a whole lot of boating at the lake! I might even get a punch card for the pool this year. I LOVE to swim. :)

Before I get lost in my summer wonderland, we have talent shows, preschool graduation, and end-of-the-year celebrations to look forward to. So many things still left on our tiny strip of tape yet to wind around that spool in my cassette player. :) Hope that's not too cheesy.

A couple of funnies...

Kaleb tripped and scraped his ankle at scouts last night. He wanted a band-aid--badly. I made him wait until we got home so I could clean his owie before applying his beloved band-aid. This did not make for a happy child. When I finally put the band-aid on, I said to him, "There, all better. Doesn't Mommy know exactly what you need?" Kaleb replied in quite a pouty voice, "Sometimes I wonder if you're really my mommy." What??!! I knew he was peeved about waiting for that band-aid, but come on--did he have to stab that knife into my heart?! I wanted to whip out all those pictures of his ultrasounds and first baby pictures just moments after his birth--but thought I'd better not. Instead I quoted a line from one of our favorite children's books. The baby bird says to his mother, "You are not a kitten. You are not a hen. You are not a dog. You are not a cow. You are not a boat, or a plane, or a Snort! You are a bird, and you are my mother." He smiled and gave me a hug and all was forgiven.

This morning Aaron dressed himself for school. Just before walking out the door, he made an emergency run to the bathroom. Good thing. Coming back out into the hallway he says, "I accidentally put my pants on with my jammies on!" Of course we fixed that problem and off to school we went!
