School's Out

Last day of school, last time Aaron can be in his jammies at 7:50 am on a school day.
Braylen was mad at Kaleb in this picture...can you tell?

What a marathon week this has been! School presentations, talent shows, assemblies...they are all behind us now. Aaron and I even ate lunch with Braylen at school on Tuesday. It gave him a preview of what he has to look forward to as a kindergartner! I'm amazed at Braylen and Kaleb's willingness to perform in front of the whole school in their talent shows. Kaleb played a big drum along with a Go Fish song called "Hit the Drum." Braylen played a song on the piano from memory. I remember myself being a bit more timid. Braylen and Kaleb also partied at their "lock-in" last Friday. All year long they've been reading books and taking AR tests on the computer to meet their reading goals each quarter. The reward is to be locked-in at one of the middle schools. Inflatables, dodge ball tournaments, face painting, crafts, yummy food, scooters in the hall...it's all there for them from 3-11 pm! Our principal and teachers really do an amazing job keeping school fun. I'm happy for my boys and their fun times at school. They finished strong and have the entire summer to look forward to.

We spent so much time at school this week I let Aaron bring a DS to keep him busy!
Grandma and Grandpa made it to the awards assembly where Braylen received the Author of the Quarter award. Notice his smile is much better in this picture!

Transitions are never easy--at least not for me. We had quite the routine going with school and all. Now that it's over, I'm intimidated at the thought of my kids being with me all day again. The older they get, the harder it is for them to be happy just hanging out with Mom. They want to be with their friends, and when they can't be--they fight with each other. Give me a couple of weeks and all of this will be behind me. We'll be loving summer and all that it brings. But until then...the transition might be a bit bumpy.

Kaleb ready to give his teacher her gift after school today

Some things to remember:

Aaron can put my watch on his bare wrist and fasten it...and slide it all the way up to his armpit! My son has hardly any meat on his bones!

Aaron's asking lots of questions about death and dying, voicing his thoughts at all times of the day and night. We'll be driving in the van and he'll say, "Mom, we don't know when we're going to die. We could die right now." Is my driving that bad? All jokes aside, I don't like to hear my son talk about dying. I really don't like it when he asks me if he's going to die before me. What a horrible thought. His curious mind explores topics I'd rather not discuss. On the flip side, it has brought up lots of opportunities to talk about heaven with him. He likes to talk about the streets of gold, and wonders if we'll be kids in heaven so he can see what the grown-ups in his life looked like when they were kids! Best of all, he reminds me that since he's asked Jesus to be his Savior he knows he'll go to heaven some day. Today when we were waiting for the boys to get out of school, Aaron said, "You don't have to be sad about us growing up and leaving. We'll all be together in heaven someday!" Very true. My son, the theologian. :)

On to lighter things. Kaleb, who has told us his dream job is to be a toll-booth operator, decided he might like to change that. Hallelujah...maybe? Here's what he said: "When I grow up I want to be a pizza delivery guy and drive one of those little cars around with the sign on top." Who says we don't aim high around here? :)

Finally, my funniest funny of the week! Super Mario Bros. on the Wii is lots of fun. So much of it is just like Nintendo game I played with my brother back when we were growing up. Mario can throw fireballs at the critters just like he did in the original game. Aaron has another word for it though. When his Mario character has the ability to throw fireballs, this is his version: "Mom! I have the fart-fire now!" :) :) :)
