Short & Sweet

While shopping at Walmart today, my youngest son gave me another funny comment in the maxi pad aisle. While looking at a drawing of Kotex's latest and greatest maxi, Aaron reached for the package and said, "Mommy, is this a slip-n-slide? Can we get it? I need a new slip-n-slide!" Oh my, I haven't laughed like that in a while. Of course when I told him it wasn't a slip-n-slide he wanted to know what it was. Once again I told him it was for grown-up ladies and that was all he needed to know. I think I will always think of maxi pads as slip-n-slides now. :)

Crawdad Friends

Braylen's entitled my blog entry for today. He became the proud owner of 2 crawdads from school and wanted to show them off to you. :) My rule is that they be kept in the garage! Braylen's actually learned lots about crawdads, and is quite good at telling me all about them. To make his aunt happy, he named them once they were all moved into their new homes. :) The smaller one is Junior, and the bigger one is L.T. Daddy thought L.T. stood for lieutenant. (good guess Derek!) Grandpa knew right away that L.T. stands for LaDainian Tomlinson, a football player for the San Diego Chargers. Way to go Grandpa! Crawdads eat cat food, or so we're told. So last night after having coffee with friends, I ran to the store for cat food at 10:15! The cashier said that my kitties must be hungry! Little did she know I was buying crawdad food. We don't do cats around here. :)

L.T.

Kaleb lost a tooth the other night during supper. He was eating bread (squishy bread of all things!) and he frantically "talked" without opening his lips. Only his mother could understand what he was saying: "My tooth, my tooth!" over and over. I held up my hand and caught the prize. Speaking of prizes, the next morning when he found a big grape laffy taffy and quarters under his pillow, he said, "Oh man, I was hoping the tooth fairy would give me a hunting backpack." He's talking about a camoflauge camelbak water pack. They're not cheap, and he wants the tooth fairy to bring him one! Ha ha ha! At least I have a birthday idea now. :)
2 Little Indians

At bedtime last night, Aaron told me he wants to see real pictures of real dinosaurs. I tried to explain there were no cameras back then, so there are no pictures of dinosaurs. Only drawings and models, etc. Then he said, "Mommy, were you a little kid when the dinosaurs were here?" Wow, I'm as old as dinosaurs now! :)

Fall Family Fun

I love fall. I love everything about fall--except the 8 legged critters that come out of hiding. I shudder to think about it! But when I focus on everything else fall brings, I just love it. Since tomorrow's the first official day of fall on the calendar, I want to celebrate with some pictures!
Go Kaleb Go!

Braylen's Favorite Thing
Derek took Braylen and Kaleb target shooting on Saturday. They both shot BB guns. They both shot a .22 rifle. Only Braylen shot a .410 shotgun. Agghhh! This former city mommy is not someone who dreamed her little boys would be shooting guns at ages 6 and 9. But Daddy's favorite hobby is hunting, so what's a mom to do? I love it that Derek's investing in our kids, teaching them his hobby and interests. They eat it up, and I learn to get excited with them when they show me their targets. :)

Tonight Kaleb asked me why hair turns gray. After giving him my answer, which included the loss of pigment, he said, "I think I'll just ask the smartest person in the world." I asked him who that person is. He said, "Mrs. Richardson, my teacher!" Wow, I just can't beat that! I'm no longer the one with all the answers.

Daddy and His Buddy

setting up their tent
on the boat to fish
two tired (but happy) campers
I thought I'd post some pictures of Aaron and Daddy's camping trip. They had such a great time together! Aaron was, in Derek's words, a peach. He enjoys Aaron sooooooo much!

Last night at supper, Kaleb said with much excitement, "You know who made the first phone--the very first one?" Derek said, "Who?" Kaleb said very matter of fact, "I don't know. Can't remember." Oooookay! So he's learning about Alexander Graham Bell at school, we think. Derek called him Alexander Tuba to see of that would help jog Kaleb's memory. Nope.
