Boating & Fishing

Our family enjoyed some time at the lake last weekend! We've been to the cabin a couple of times this spring to mow the yard and get the place ready for summer. Each time the kids asked to go boating, and this time they got their wish. :) The winds were light enough and the rain stayed away for 2 days--even the fishing was good. I brought along a book and enjoyed watching everyone else catch fish.

I think they caught 18 fish or so, and kept 7. We're saving up for a family fish fry later in the summer. Kaleb and Aaron loved watching Derek and Grandpa clean the fish. It reminded me of how much they like watching the guys process deer and turkey. Boys! I hope the water warms up quickly so we can ski and tube the next time we go boating. That's the kind of boating I enjoy the most. :) Derek gave me an early birthday present this week that I CAN'T WAIT to use at the lake. I've asked for one of these for 2 years and now I finally have my very own knee board!!!

Back at the cabin, our family slept in the camper. One more way to prepare for our camping trip later this month. Last night Derek told me I can't use my regular shampoo when I take showers in the camper. I have to buy RV shampoo and soap. I thought he was kidding--he's not kidding. I guess I won't smell like mangoes on our camping trip, since Derek said RV soaps are unscented. When I told him I didn't like that very much, he told me I could always take my good-smelling shampoo and take a shower in the campground's bathhouse. I told him I'll look for RV shampoo at the store.

Aaron played his own game in the camper

All 3 boys entertained themselves with toy soldiers in the camper.
Today we're packing up Braylen's things for a week of Boy Scout camp. We signed him up for this camp months ago, and I can hardly believe the time's finally here. This will be his first time at Boy Scout camp. Just when I get used to church camp, things change and now he's off to a different camp for a week. I think some mothers might look forward to a week with one less kid at home. I'm not one of those mothers. I wish I was. Braylen's excited to go, and that helps me a lot. Still, I will miss my son! My MIL told me I need to replace my fear with trust. That will be my mantra for the week.

I had some grumpy days this week--grumpy at Derek, grumpy at my boys. Some of it was justified, some of it was just plain grumpiness. Bless Derek when he came home from work on Friday and agreed to take us out for supper. We chose a family-friendly restaurant and I felt all the frustrations of my week melting away. I think Derek would agree that meal was worth every penny. :)
