We took our kids on our first official family vacation! Oh, we've traveled all over the place with them before, but this time it was different. We didn't visit any family members. We didn't go to anyone's wedding. We just picked someplace we'd like to take our kids to, and we went!
Does that sound easy? It wasn't easy at all. But it was worth it. We took the camper to the Black Hills in South Dakota. Leaving on Friday the 17th, we spent Father's day and our 14th wedding anniversary on vacation! What fun timing. :) 14 years ago Derek and I made a stop in the Black Hills on our honeymoon. It seemed a perfect place to bring our kids to, and it was.
Next time I'll tell all about our trip. For now, it's late and I'm tired. We came home on June 22nd with a very sick boy. (thankfully he wasn't sick on our vacation--just the day we came home.) Aaron's had a fever as high as 104.1, a rash all over his body, and 2 trips to the clinic. The diagnosis? A virus. We're waiting it out here at home, and I'm hoping we don't have to wait much longer. Also, a water pipe burst in our basement while we were gone. Our amazing family here in town found it while checking on our house and did some serious clean-up work. Otherwise, we would've come home to a swimming pool in our basement. We lost some things, but not a lot. We have a lot of work to do still, but one day at a time, right? Let's get Aaron better. Let's get Derek through his long weekend on his new shift for the summer. And let's get some sleep.
Maybe next week I can go grocery shopping again. And pay bills. And return overdue library books. Life feels pretty messy right now. But our vacation was not messy. It was everything (and more) that we hoped for. :)
