Whatever You're Doing...

These days find me enjoying my family, yet finding a new rhythm. Stepping through new doors, dealing with tired children, being tired myself--it's a balancing act for sure. We're in the heart of soccer season for Kaleb, flag football for Braylen, and cub scouts for both of them. Awana starts this week, and so do piano lessons for Braylen. We are busy! Also, I see so much pain around me--marriages breaking up, my neighbor's death, friends making wrong choices...I don't understand half of it.

But even in the chaos of life, I want to remember how I saw God working last week. Wednesday, while waiting for Aaron to come out of preschool, a friend of mine held a child who wasn't hers. I asked who she was, and found out she's the daughter of my friend's husband's cousin. Whew! I thought nothing more of it for the rest of the day. Later that evening, Derek was called into work. His co-worker, Chad, had no one to watch his daughter that night. So while the guys went to work, I gained another little person to put to bed. Not knowing Chad very well, I wasn't sure how this would work. I'd never met his daughter. I didn't even know how old she was--a crib or a bed? Would she be terrified to be left with a stranger? When Chad walked through the door, he held his daughter in his arms and I couldn't believe it. This was the same little girl I'd seen my friend holding that morning! She remembered me, and it made caring for her that night so much easier. Derek's been witnessing to Chad for a while, and Chad is seeking. How awesome to be available to meet someone's need, and to have God pave the way for a smoother experience. This little girl was a joy to have. I'm reminded of the song, "Whatever You're Doing" by Sanctus Real. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=06AgY5Xoavw We just never know what God's going to use, or how God's going to use us for purposes greater than ourselves.

To close for today, I want to share some of our boys' lastest thoughts. :) While tucking Kaleb into bed the other night, he asked me how many more days until I help in his classroom. Then he said, "Mommy, when you come to my classroom, can you wear your hair in a ponytail? You look prettiest with your hair in a ponytail." I could have just melted right there. :) Aaron looked out the van's window at night and found his "wishing star." Then he said, "How come the wishing star doesn't work anymore?" We asked him what he was wishing for and he said, "A black Nintendo." Our other boys didn't even know what Nintendo was at 4 years old. :) Yesterday in the driveway, Aaron was trying to kill grasshoppers. They are everywhere these days! He finally got one, and then I heard, "Look, it's a number 9! Now it's a number 4!" He was making number shapes with the grasshoppers guts. What a boy thing to do.
