Easter Weekend

Easter weekend brought us 5 days off from school, officially called "spring break" on our school's calendar. Ironically, the weather was identical to our "mid-winter break" in March! We did a lot of things inside, and snuck outside when able. This break reminded me how close we are to the end of the school year. As of now, we have 12 and 1/2 days to go!

I think with Derek working normal hours, I take it for granted that he's home to celebrate holidays with us. I remember the days when he worked Easter Sunday, and all the other holidays...how blessed I feel to have him home with us now. The boys found their Easter baskets with plenty of time left to get ready for church. It doesn't take long to get three boys ready for Easter. With girls it would be another story! We didn't dress alike...but we did end up wearing a lot of blue and green.
Braylen's too old for clip-on ties now, but I convinced Kaleb and Aaron to wear them. :) Our nieces looked cute in their dresses and shoes. Somehow we found a way to gather all 6 kids together for a picture.
Our Easter dinner was one big party! I enjoyed the time together with extended family and friends. Grandma had Braylen open up one resurrection egg at a time, while he called on his brothers and cousins to explain what the content of each egg meant. These kids know their resurrection stuff! We also celebrated Uncle Dave's birthday...3 weeks late. How fun for our kids to get to know their newest uncle a little better.
Grandma and Grandpa's yard is perfect for hiding Easter baskets. It took a few minutes, but eventually everyone found his basket. I was glad the rain held off for a while. The sun even came out later on, and most of the kids played ladder ball.

Each boy got an "aqua saber" in his basket, airplane gliders, bubbles, and some yummy candy and gum. Kaleb's wearing his headphones he received from his Easter basket at home, which re-awakened his interest in his iPod. He was so funny to watch as he wandered around the yard with his headphones on.

I took 30 minutes out of my afternoon to call my parents and wish them a Happy Easter. As much as I wished for us to be together that day, at least we had that phone call. Pretty soon summer will be here and we'll get together again!

So, here we are, gearing up for a VERY busy May. Several times I've had to remind myself to take things one day at a time. I also like to toss in a few spontaneous fun outings when I can. What relieves stress better than ice cream? So, on our first Awana-free Wednesday night, I took Kaleb and Aaron to Baskin Robbins for .31 scoops. They ate every bite and climbed all over a fire truck in the parking lot. We also took time to enjoy the sunset on our way home by a golf course. Kaleb wanted to run into the middle of the highway and pick up a stray golf ball, but that was pushing it too far. :)

I'm thankful for Easter, for Christ's resurrection, for family, ice cream, and pretty sunsets. :) May these memories pull me through the busy days yet to come.
