Our Baseball Boy

What would summer be without baseball? Aaron's been our little ball player this summer, and it's been so much fun to watch him have fun. In the 7-year old league, the coaches start the boys hitting off the tee. After a week or so, the coaches pitch--overhand, never underhand. Every time Aaron was up at bat, I prayed he'd hit the ball! Thankfully the coaches are patient with the boys, and they kept pitching until each boy hit the ball. Aaron grew so much as a player this season. What a difference between 6 year olds and 7 year olds. Nobody ran to third base instead of first, and nobody tackled his teammate--both of those things happened last year! Aaron had some good hits, he made a few plays in the field, but best of all--he had fun! Kaleb and Braylen came to his games when they could, Daddy watched him play one day, and Grandma made it to several games. Even Ginger came to his last game. :)

With our busy June behind us, we finally found some time to set up our pool. But before we could do that, we needed to move a tree. Aaron noticed a cottonwood tree growing near our swingset, and he declared it was his tree. He loved how fast it grew and how big its leaves were. Derek took Aaron to the field to fill a tub with dirt, dug up the tree, and watered it in the tub. What a great daddy. Sadly, the tree didn't make it. But here it is before they dug it up.

So far they've been swimming in the pool twice. Kaleb swam for 4 and 1/2 hours one afternoon! He swam laps around and around the circle. :) My little waterbug. There's plenty of fights when all 3 boys are in the pool together. Time for a bigger pool--I wish!

Our little garden is growing nicely this year. It may be small, but I still get my tomatoes and peppers. This year the boys grew pea plants at school and we planted those too. Yesterday Aaron picked the first peas, washed them, and ate them like carrot sticks! Yum. :) He also had some sunflower seeds he wanted to plant, and two of them sprouted. By the end of the summer I'm sure they'll be taller than the fence.

Summer sure is fun! Right now we're in the middle of a week-long visit with my parents. I'm loving every minute of our time together. July is probably my favorite summer month. Lots of warm weather, lots of lake and pool time, not much of a schedule to follow, and of course--a visit with Mom and Dad. We started off our week with lots of fireworks...more on that in my next post!
