Splashing Around

The heat wave lasted, and lasted, and lasted...so we went swimming! Kaleb and Aaron each had a friend over to swim in our pool. On another day, my 3 nieces came over for a swim. Our school's summer reading pool party fell in the midst of this heat wave--how nice! When I think back to those days in late May and early June when the boys did all their reading, I remember many chilly, rainy days. What a difference a month can make! Here are a few pictures from the school's pool party.

Braylen really enjoys the high dive this year.
Aaron likes the low dive. :)

Aaron is SO excited to play with Alex!

I had a hard time capturing Kaleb--he was a busy swimmer!
All 3 boys loved the diving boards. Braylen spent most of his time there. Aaron and his buddies spent lots of time on the water slide, while Kaleb played some water basketball with his friends. This party is like a reunion with our friends and teachers. :) School's been out since the middle of May, yet it feels like longer when the kids go this long without seeing people they're used to seeing daily! Our principal always brings enough popsicles and water bottles that I'm able to enjoy a treat too. :) Braylen won the reading contest in his age division, while Kaleb and Aaron simply exceeded their own personal goals. How nice that Braylen's prize was not one, but three coupons for free sno cones at the mall. I know who he'll be sharing those with. :)

There is one more member of our family who likes the water. We give her lots of time to play in the sprinkler and with the hose. We also gave her a wading pool to call her own. And yet, it's not enough.

Do NOT let this pathetic look fool you. Our new spelling for Ginger's name is G-U-I-L-T-Y! She went for a swim not once, but twice in our kid's pool. Of course the cover was on--but I found it shredded and on the bottom of the pool when she was done with it. Words can't describe what came over me when I found out what she'd done. Our new filter? Clogged with hair. Fresh, clean pool? Dirty and slimy. Our third pool cover? Ruined. Ginger's saving grace? The pool was still standing. I don't know how, but she managed to get in and out of it, twice, without snagging holes in the pool or air ring. After calming down, I wished I could have seen our own Houdini in action. Unfortunately for Guilty Ginger, she no longer has the opportunity to swim in our pool. Every time I let her out in the yard to do her business, she's attached to a cable. She'll have to be content to splash around in her own wading pool! And hopefully she'll do lots of that, because she recently walked through some wet cement caulk...didn't I tell you she's guilty? :)
