Fun at the Fair

Today we visited the 4-H exhibits at our county fair. Our boys look forward to it every year. We saw lots of goats, sheep, pigs, cows, and roosters. Being a city girl myself, it always amazes me to see those 4-H kids handle the big animals with such ease. We treat the animal exhibit like a petting zoo, but for those kids it's a lot of hard work! One young 4-H boy showed Kaleb and Aaron how to pet a "calf." (looked like a big cow to me!) They even took turns sitting on the (sitting) cow's back. Kaleb oinked, mooed, baa'ed and crowed at all the animals, waiting for them to answer back. Aaron and Braylen practiced their turkey calls with a white turkey, and the turkey gobbled along with them.

Yesterday we made our annual trek to the fair's carnival rides, thanks to Grandma and Grandpa! Braylen rode several grown-up rides, including one that I would hesitate to ride on. The Super Shot took him way up high, and dropped him down real fast! Kaleb and Aaron rode many rides with their cousins, including the ferris wheel with me. At the end of the day we enjoyed snow cones, cherry limeaid, funnel cake and cotton candy. Of course the temperature was 100+ degrees, making those snow cones taste even better. Aaron took a tumble as we were leaving and that gave us a true "blood, sweat, and tears" experience at the fair.

Derek's favorite fair experience was last night: demolition derby time! He took Braylen and Kaleb along and they had a blast. Kaleb's favorite parts were the 3 fires resulting from crashes. One crash even tossed both cars off the track. Aaron and I stepped outside and could hear the cars roaring at the fairgrounds, which is about 8 blocks from our house. He can't wait until he is 6 years old and then Daddy will take him to a demo derby too. :)
